I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for how to fix new headlight covers? The club haven't sold the fixings for a while so something else must be used. Are there any existing fixings available or do people make their own?
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. |

Something I always keep thinking I should fit, but as Tim says with no fixing kits I'm not sure how to attach them! |

Hi
Mine are fixed with 3 stell plate at right angle. One side in fiber, the other in the headlight cover. I have add seal not for watertightness but for deformation when you scew.

I've just put headlamp covers on the Jem for the first time after owning the car for 20 years (but I did have to rebuild one headlamp recess that had been repaired to the wrong shape.
I decided not to use steel brackets but to fit a couple of tabs on the shell at either side near the top and use countersunk self-tapping screws. At the front end there's a longer screw into a raised area of the shell. I'll get some photos tomorrow.
Our original fixing kits comprised two stainless steel tongues at the back of the cover that located in slots cut into the shell above the headlamp unt, and a bracket near the front on the outside. |

I've just found some fixings on eBay that look about right, now just need to order some headlamp covers!
Who in the club has a stock of these? Will probably be easiest to collect at Castle Combe, if possible. |

Thank you all for the advice and pictures.
There seems to be a few small brackets available on ebay and in hardware stores. I bought some today so will see how that goes but the tab approach also sounds good and more discreet, I would be interested to see pictures of them.
Andy Wright deals with spares and has the covers, I bought mine via Roger Garland. |

Unashamedly copied from Geoff Dunlop's car. A stainless-steel tongue held on by a pair of countersunk bolts through the acrylic sits above the headlight and slots into the bodywork. There's a single mushroom-headed stainless-steel bolt right at the front that screws into a captive nut epoxied into the nose.

The photos below show what I went for. It happened to be that some brackets I bought from Homebase (20mm) fitted perfectly with the holes in the headlight cover. I then superglued the nut to the inside of the bracket.
Thanks for all the advice and photos, there seem to be infinite ways to do the job! |

High jacking the link a bit, anyone got any mk1 headlight covers they want to sell, don't have to be perfect as long as they are in one piece. Cheers. Gary |

The club never had any Mk.I headlamp covers althogh the factory obviously had them for the Le Mans car. I gess if anyone has any they will have been specially made. |

How different are they could you cut the club ones down (easliy cut with a jigsaw with an aluminum blade) or reshape them in an oven. Mike |
