Is it legal to have lapbelts for driver and passenger seat as 8080 has them. I don't feel quite safe when driving with them on but I guess if it's good enough for Planes .... |

According to Wikipedia 3point belts were compulsory from 1968 and existing car back to 1965 fitted as well , so I would say they are not legal , but I could be wrong |

I think that on planes, the seatbelt is there more to prevent you getting thrown out of the seat in turbulence, than during an impact. Pretty much any impact in a plane is going to be pretty devastating. Also, the seat in front of you is designed to be a bit more gentle to hit than the steering wheel/dash.
Does your car not have embedded studs in the door pillar for a 3 point belt? If it does, then the 3 point belt is very easy to install...
