How do I take out the dashboard ?
It should be relatively easy as I also have the windscreen out at the moment

They are fiberglassed in so you will have to cut it out using an air powered saw or hacksaw. Why do you want to take it out? It is probably better to repair the original one. |

Perhaps to replace with original?
It's a thought I have had for some time, as a lot of cars seem to have non original dash fitted. My last car, MI 01R had the original MK3 dash fitted but it was horribly hacked about and should ideally have been removed and repaired/replaced.
My current car, just a bare shell MK 3 ,has the original dash and its in good nick. I was wondering of that might be used as a mould to make up replacements, but would I need to cut it out first??
Would appreciate some guidance on this.
ps: not intending to hijack this thread.

I was hoping that it would dissassemble.
The reason for wanting to take it out is that over the years it has been hacked about and it is a bit of a mess + I want to get to the wiring loom to tidy it up |

Your best bet is to cut out the instrument panel rather than the whole dash, or just make up a new panel with brushed or machined aluminium to go over the top of it. On my 'other' Mk.IV I'm fitting a varnished wooden dash made from an old tv cabinet over the top of the original one. I've made up a bit of fibreglass which overhangs the top front edge of the dash and then wraps round a length of dowel rod. I'll cover the top with vynil. As the cabinet was a l;ot narrower than the car the dash is in four sections, one of which will drop down to reveal the glove compartment. |
