How about the reliable SU 1 3/4? On a MiniSpares manifold. Available, easy to set up, good on emissions and powerful. A Weber 45 on a Maniflow 6" manifold is a popular choice. My engine builder advised against the Weber because it's not really designed for siamese ports. Often, at low revs, a couple of cylinders will drop out making it very lumpy for around town use, fine for flat out racing.

Try the above link, but it will only give standard from factory info

To fit a weber you will need to make an air box in the bulkhead. (There is a short thread on the forum somewhere about it. )

SU fits without the need for body mods.

Unless you've go a modified bonnet (or Mk.V type) use twin HS2s for economy (with a standard Maniflow/RC40 system) or for performance use twin HS4s and a 2" exhaust system. With an extra bulge you can use a single HIF44 which is a pretty good choice.

i need a new bonnet so modifying one might not be a problem! Having found out that its a 1380 engine i think i would go for performance, lets see what ebay has to offer...!!

Here's my bulge!

and my airbox for Weber 45 on 6" Maniflow manifold

Engine number is at front of engine, right hand side on a little alloy plate. If the block has been skimmed it may well be missing.

I don't normally reply to men showing me their bulge but it is a nice one! i will seek out the engine plate tomorrow. as i need a bonnet i may well try a bulge myself! but i like the idea of the weber (i told my Dad, who used to do some racing and he said if i like a lot of noise go with the weber!)

Not only a bulge Peter, you also seem to have a lump as well.

HIF44 SU on an MG Metro water heated manifold is a good choice for reasonable performance with economy and an easy set up.
