Hello
I planed to fit a spare engine bud sadly it isn't possible to make it a quick fit, so I've put the engine in a corner fore another project.
Now I am going to rebuild my engine, to day I took of the gear linkage and a lot of the other stuff that needs to come of before we take the engine out.

Hello, after a little time of work on another car. (bought myself a mini for daily transport) end very busy with my new job. ( starting Feb 2008 ) I had to do some things on the Marcos, first is taking the engine out. We did some research of this. We, is may dad and I. The research said take the engine out trough the top, so we rented a hoist. And started it, half way trough it be came clear it was a very tithe fit. We found it to tithe. So the idea was, to put the engine back on its place, and take the sub frame and engine out from under the car. Because it is a holiday there was no time to get spec tools. So we did it with raw power. My brother and I , we picked the front of the car and lifted it over the engine and sub frame. This went very well, although you need to coordinate the several steps. As we are really good team players it worked really great.

The approved method is to lift the body off the subframe. I can take the engine out single-handed, using a couple of jacks to raise the body and axle stands to support it. It's easier if you take the head off first and remove the head studs, so you don't need to raise the front so high. |

With the engine is on a work-bench, it is time to strip it. First of will be the clutch and flywheel, with the wright tools and a good medium hammer it sprung loose. (watch your feet)

There are seven broken URLs which just return an empty page. That site just returns nothing unless you give it a valid argument. Try an alternative site like photobucket, or just upload the pics one at a time. |

The site you've chosen uses Windows Live ID which guarantees it won't be compatible with a lot of browsers and platforms. Also it's possible that the site limits hot-linking to five images. As you have an account that probably won't apply to you so you can see all of your own photos. |

Today I removed the cylinder head, here I found an oil track.
I think de head gasket wasn't the right one. So now I am thinking of placing a copper gasket.
I also examined the studs and bolts, how often can we use these nuts and studs?
Some of these studs I measured and found out that the length has become longer then the spec's.

Mini Spares in London do higher quality cylinder head studs and nuts. In fact they do 2 types, their own and some incredibly priced versions. If you do fit a copper head gasket make sure it's a genuine one as there are some poor quality replacements out there. |

My preference is to use the black sticky gaskets for the Metro Turbo. They're made by Payen and I've never had any problems with them. The usual problem on 1275s (particularly if rebored) is that the thin bit between cylinders 2 and 3 blows out. In your case it looks like it was blowing between three of the cylinders and the push rod tubes. Perhaps the rear studs weren't properly torqued up?
The pic was OK! |

After measuring and a discussion with a engine builder what is the best to do, the result is that there will be new pistons placed (+ 0.40) and the rest will be checked so I have strip my engine.

My Omega forged dish 060 pistons will be here in the last week of january. Now I have a 1293cc it will be 1330 after engine overhaul. Head is 31-37 very highly modified with bronze valve guides and racing rockers. Maybe I put a new racing head or fit the current one. Will post pics within a couple of weeks. |

Hello, Wednesday is my engine returning from the engine builder. Sadly I am not able to see what the finished product will look like, as I am starting a new career. I hope to start the rebuild in a weekend in the near future.

We first placed the camshaft and then placed the crankshaft and torqued it down and fitted the pistons.

One word of warning - lagging the manifold is all very well, but the exhaust pipe will be very much hotter further down, where it gets very close to the fibreglass. You might need to put some heat protection along the edge of the tunnel.
You'll probably want to remove the oil separator on the transfer gear casing in order to attach the engine stabiliser and bolt on the clutch slave cylinder. |
