Hi all!
Anyone got any (useful) suggestions for a passenger side wing mirror that will work - ie. one you can actually see something out of...
I've got a (pretty useless) torpedo type on the drivers side, mounted on the quarterlight section, & cant seem to find anything that will give me a decent view for the other side.
I'd like to find something that would fit on the door or perspex window, rather than the body if poss...
Any suggestions?? |

Might something like these single seater mirrors be any better
Here are the standard Tex mirrors,
I know you don't want body mounted like these,
And I'm sorry to say, but these are my favourite, on MM 9042, I don't know if they are any better for visability, but they look soooo sporty

As ever trust the number two top poster to come up with the goods.
Nice photos Neil, I love the look of the white one, a nice shade of white.
I think those mirrors will only look good, I can't imagine them to be very effect though. |

| Hmmm... Those single seater types are probably the most effective - But I do prefer the retro look of those Downton type alloys... I wonder if you can actually see anything useful through them??? Fab mounting on that green Japanese one eh? That seems to be the biggest problem, getting a good enough angle from the driving position to see much... |

I'm also currently pondering what to do in this area. I have cleaned up and sprayed the standard Clubman ones from the donor car to match the MM body colour, but have not fitted them as I don't have any seats yet and am not sure if they will be seen from the driving position.
I was hoping to find something that could mount on the flat horizontal section of the door at the quarterlight section but have found nothing suitable. The Clubman ones should end up looking something like the ones on the green car but the attachment stalks are shorter.
(Will also have to demolish all the door trim and winder mechanisms again the fit whatever mirrors I end up with - damn!) |

Ah you see Bent, all that Polish beer & vodka...What door mirrors??? I barely remember the Swedish chef...
Seriously, didn't you have those special mounting blocks that fitted on the flat tops of the doors, which seemed to give much more flexibility with positioning/angles? Where did you say you sourced them?
That seems to be the hardest part, getting enough angle to see out of the passenger side mirror from the driving seat!
BTW Tertius, definately sort the seats first, it makes a massive difference to the viewing angles depending on seat height etc (& what mounting brackets you use too!) I changed my seat bracket & everything needed repositioning!!!!

The best mirrors I've found for the Mini Marcos are the Autosafe ones. Difficult to find, but they do crop up on autojumble stamds. I saw two of them at Knebworth and nearly bought the better one. Make sure the fixing bracket and gasket is included. They came in black or stainless with flat or convex glass.
When I built my Mini Marcos I put racing mirrors on the front wings, but they didn't stick out far enough to give me a useful view so I took them off and put the Autosafes on the doors. |

| Mine are from Mini Spares Part No. GAM108 with flat glass and they also come with convex glass |

Is the weather strip on both sides of the glass or just the outer, and how are they held on, screws/clips ? |

Thanks for the tip Guy - will definately hold off making more holes in the door without getting the seating right first. I have a set of fibre buckets that I was going to get upholstered but on investigation, they are not very good so I have decided to scrap them and shop around for ready made commercial ones.
"Weather strip" is actually just a thick felt tape Neil that I stuck to the door only with contact adhesive. It is a pretty tight sandwich between the door and glass so it should work (doesn't rain too much here anyway - eat your hearts out guys!! |

We have standard "Mini" door mirrors on our Mark 5
Depends who is looking, but I feel they look the part - and they certainly work!
Couldn't really cope driving in mainland Europe without a passenger side mirror - greatly assist when parking too.

| What about the interior mirror? I am finding my window mounted interior mirror only gives me a view of the road 3 feet behind the car! I guess dashboard mounted is the best option? |

That's right Justin - Only real option I reckon... But you have to be careful with size - too big & it can restrict view forwards too...
BTW, I've gone with Downton style wing mirrors - Just can't decide where to put them... |

Hi Alex,
I have a left hand mirror mounted on top of the door and it works fine, just had to really tighten it up so that the mirror didnt drop down.
